Nationals trade Jeimer Candelario to Cubs for two prospects

The Washington Nationals traded third baseman Jeimer Candelario to the Chicago Cubs on Monday night, the team announced. In return, the Nationals received 22-year-old left-hander DJ Herz and 20-year-old shortstop Kevin Made. Herz is in Class AA; Made is in high Class A.

Candelario, a 29-year-old pending free agent, signed a one-year contract with the Nationals in the offseason after spending the past five-plus seasons with the Detroit Tigers. After a down year, he bounced back to hit .258 with 16 home runs and 53 RBI in 99 games while playing nearly every day at third base.
