By India Today Sports Desk: Day 2 of the 5th Test of the Ashes that took place at Kennington Oval, London, witnessed an intriguing play of skill and strategy. One of the most noteworthy highlights of the day was English captain Joe Root’s sensational catch to dismiss the exceptional Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne.

As the Ashes unfolded, the first session on Day 2 turned critical as the English bowler Mark Wood attacked masterfully. Though Labuschagne put up a pretty good defense, a slight slip of his bat saw the ball edge out. In a thrilling turn of events, Root showcased some quick reflexes and remarkable agility.

He swiftly dived on to his left and caught the ball, much to the amazement of viewers and teammates alike. It was indeed an embodiment of the world-class fielding standard that the English side maintains. Labuschagne scored nine runs off 82 balls before biting the dust.

BROAD CONTINUES ENGLAND’S DOMINANCE

Stuart Broad, England’s seasoned pacer, yet again demonstrated his innate ability and impeccable prowess in the post-lunch session of Day 2. He dismissed the Austrians, Usman Khawaja, and Travis Head as the weather laid out a perfect canvas for him.

Khawaja was the first to face Broad’s wrath post-lunch. Moving away the ball, Broad forced a nick out of the left-hander, who went for an ill-advised drive and was caught behind at 27 runs from 44 balls. An impressive scenario in which Broad’s ability to move the ball with the utmost precision was evident.

Next, it was Travis Head who fell victim to Broad’s bowling prowess. In an unforgettable over, Broad bowled a delivery that came out wide off the crease and shaped it in. Head couldn’t read the line properly.

Expecting the ball to move off the seam, he was late to react, and as he played down the wrong line, the ball brushed the top of the off stump, knocking the bails off. Travis walked back to the pavilion scoring 19 runs from 71 deliveries.
